Options

Options give you the right, not the obligation, to buy or sell something at a fixed price by a fixed date. This path starts with the contract itself, builds up to pricing, the Greeks and volatility, then walks through the common strategies and the risks that only show up near expiry. It ends with how dealer positioning is read and how crypto options differ.

Best after: Market Foundations, Stocks

Read this first. Options are leveraged. Buying an option can lose the whole premium, often quickly. Selling options without a hedge (naked calls, naked puts, short straddles) can lose far more than the account holds, and a short call has no upper limit on loss. Nothing here is advice or a forecast, and no strategy removes risk. Margin and product rules differ by country and broker, so check yours.

  1. The basics

What an option is, what its terms mean, and how to describe where it sits against the price.

  2. Value, payoffs and exercise

What an option is worth, how to draw its outcome, and what actually happens when it is used.

  3. The Greeks

Five numbers that describe how an option's price responds to the market. They are estimates, and they change as the market moves.

  4. Volatility

Volatility is the main input to an option's price. Learning to read it is the difference between guessing and comparing.

  5. Core strategies

The standard building blocks. Each one changes the shape of the payoff and the risk you hold.

  6. Advanced structures and risk

Time-based spreads, sizing, the risks near expiry, how positioning is read, and how crypto options differ.

Education, not financial advice. Nothing here says what to buy or sell, and rules and product availability differ by country. All roadmaps.
